Yesterday, I conquered one of Argentina's most renowned and challenging hikes, Sendero Fitz Roy. Stretching approximately 21 km (about 13 miles), this trail is noted for its grueling final 1.5 km ascent, requiring sturdy gear and peak physical condition. People flock to this town just to tackle it, despite the options of other stunning hikes, waterfalls, and tranquil vibes around.
Sendero Fitz Roy is a breathtaking and physically demanding journey. I began at 6:45 AM, knowing it would take longer than the suggested 4 hours each way. My plan was to take my time, sprawl at the summit, enjoy a meal, and take my time descending.
In a time where "pics or it didn’t happen" dominates, I must be where my feet are. While I will snap photos to share with friends and family, my priority is fully immersing myself in reality where all five senses are turned on and active. Pausing in each city I visit is vital for my growth. It grounds me mentally, spiritually, physically, and emotionally, giving me flexibility with time.
The first 8.5 kilometers were enjoyable; I sang, danced, and absorbed nature. Witnessing the sunrise was a highlight—a powerful reminder of the sun's unwavering role in our lives. Rising and setting each day for us to live. A day without sun feels different. It really sets the tone for a day immersed in nature.
Reflecting on the hike, I realized the importance of not overplanning life. Trekking through the heart of Argentina was never on my agenda, yet embracing change and the universe’s surprises is exhilarating. Whether I plan or not, I trust that the right path will unfold.
The final kilometer was brutal. Trekking alone, I navigated the well-marked path, occasionally meeting fellow hikers along the way. As I slipped, struggled, and powered through with my trekking poles, I reached the peak—an unforgettable moment.
The summit was the ultimate reward! Every step was worth it.

At the top, I met Jakob, a bright 23-year-old from Sweden taking a break from academics to explore. Our connection deepened over dinner at my hostel, Rancho Grande Hostel, where we shared a hearty meal of lamb with mashed potatoes and dessert. Jakob’s ambition for life and adventurous spirit resonated deeply with me. I hope our paths cross again someday.
Despite initial anxiety, everything fell into place beautifully—as it always does.
