Top Things to Do in Bogota, Colombia (South America)

Updated: Jul 9, 2024

A fantastic city to get your feet dipped into the culture, cuisine, and history of Colombia!

(Personally, If you are in between Bogota and Medellin, I would say Medellin over Bogota!) Below is a travel guide for the top things to do in Bogota, Colombia.

Recommended Duration: 3-5 days (depending on your schedule)

  1. Place of stay:

  • Fatima Hostel Bogota: Excellent location in the heart of La Candelaria with vibrant cafes and cuisine. The dorms are tight, but the private rooms are fantastic with comfortable beds and friendly staff. There's a bar in front offering a free shot upon check-in.

2. Things to do:

  • Free Walking Tour: Starts daily at 10 am & 2 pm outside the Museum of Gold with red umbrellas. Personal note: The tour wasn't exciting for me, so I left early.

  • Museum of Gold: Optional visit, good for rainy days.

  • Shopping for Souvenirs: Head to this street for beautifully crafted jewelry and clothes.

  • Nemesio Camacho El Campín Stadium: Catch a football game for an exhilarating experience with passionate fans. Tickets bought online!

  • Plazoleta Chorro de Queveo: Enjoy Chicha, a popular and local corn-fermented beverage, in a lively plaza with locals at night. My favorite activity in Bogota!

  • Taquilla Teleférico Monserrate: Best on sunny days for iconic 360 views. Can also be done by hiking to the top!

3. Dining and Drinks:

  • District Market Square: Upscale market offering diverse local and international cuisines and drinks.

  • Sitio Casa Candelaria: Hot spot for Colombian cuisine offering great value.

  • Origenes Cafe: A cozy cafe with a large menu including matcha, lion mane drinks, and golden lattes.

  • San Felipe: Local spot for affordable and hearty meals throughout the day.

  • El Gato Gris: Gourmet restaurant with rich local cuisine and cultural atmosphere, featuring live music.

  • Chantonner Delikatessen: Deli and winery in the historic center with great sandwiches, salads, and coffee.

  • El Khalifa Shawarma: Middle Eastern cuisine in La Candelaria.

  • Cacao y mas Cacao: If you're a sucker for chocolate like me, hit this spot up! Featuring Colombia’s finest chocolate with chocolate lattes and tortas.

From here, I took an overnight bus to Medellin! Ticket bought online.

Xoxo,

Chelsey
